Company research. It’s so important to do this in advance. Look at their website and familiarise yourself with their products or services, particularly the ones which relate to your job. Make sure you read through developments in their industry to give yourself more to discuss in the interview. Think; if you don’t show an interest in them why should they be interested in you?

Visualise yourself in that role. What have you done in previous roles that relates to the job you are applying for?  For example; if you’ve managed social media previously make sure you look at their social media platforms and think about what you would do differently to improve theirs.  Also look at all the key criteria they are looking for in the role and match your experience with examples to each one.

Wear suitable work attire, polish your shoes and generally brush up before… It may seem obvious but what you wear and how you present yourself is the first impression your interviewer will get from you. Make sure it’s a good one.

Own the day. Don’t allow anything to interfere with your appointment. Be prepared for delays so leave early and plan your journey well in advance. Make sure everything you need is ready the night before. Good preparation is your key to staying in control.

Work on five questions to ask at the interview in advance. Speak clearly, maintain eye contact, smile and be enthusiastic about both the role and the company.

So that’s a quick insight from CVWOW. There are so many different views on this subject but most recruiters will agree with the above fundamental aspects to consider when you get offered an interview.

We value all feedback from both applicants and recruiters so feel free to join in the discussion.
